This Privacy Policy explains how QuickNora Labs LLC ("QuickNora," "we," "us") handles information when you use the Sparka mobile app and the getsparka.app website (together, the "Service"). Sparka is built to run on as little personal information as possible.
The short version: Sparka has no user accounts — you're identified only by an anonymous identifier, never your name or email. Before your first spark, we ask your permission to send your classroom photo and theme to OpenAI, which creates your activity image and text. We don't store your photos or generated images on our servers, OpenAI doesn't use them to train its models, and we automatically block any photo containing a face before it's sent. Purchases are handled by Apple — we never see your payment details. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't do advertising or cross-app tracking.
1. How Sparka Uses AI
When you create a spark, the classroom photo you provide and the theme you type are sent to OpenAI to generate your activity image and activity text. Before this happens for the first time, the App shows you a consent screen and asks your permission — no photo is sent to OpenAI without it.
- Not used for training: OpenAI does not use the photos or text you submit through Sparka to train its models. Under its own policies, OpenAI may temporarily retain this data for a limited period (for example, to monitor for misuse) before it is deleted — we do not control that retention window.
- Not stored on our servers: Sparka's servers do not store your classroom photos or the generated activity images. They are processed in memory only for the duration of the request and are not saved afterward.
- Face detection: Sparka automatically checks every photo and blocks it before it reaches OpenAI if it contains a face, as part of our commitment to keeping children out of the generation pipeline. Photograph empty classroom areas only.
2. Information We Handle
On your device
Some information stays only on your phone and is never sent to our servers:
- Your most recent photo for each classroom area (sensory table, light table, dramatic play, block center).
- Your recent and saved sparks (the generated images and activity text you've kept).
Deleting the App removes this locally stored content from your device.
On our servers
| Information | Where it comes from | What we do with it |
|---|---|---|
| Classroom photo & theme | You take/select a photo and type a theme in the App | Sent to OpenAI to generate your activity image and text, with your consent (see Section 1). Processed in memory during the request only — not stored on our servers afterward. |
| Activity text, classroom area & theme history | Created by the Service | The generated activity title and description, which classroom area you used, and the theme you typed are stored on our servers, linked to an anonymous subscriber ID — not your name or email. |
| Monthly usage counts | Automatic | Tracked on our servers to enforce your plan's monthly generation limit, linked to your anonymous subscriber ID. |
| Onboarding quiz answers | You answer during onboarding | Stored on our servers, not linked to your subscriber ID or any other data we collect, used in aggregate to understand what teachers are looking for. |
| App usage events | Automatic, as you use the App | Basic first-party analytics (e.g., screens viewed, plans tapped, purchases) linked to your anonymous subscriber ID, used to understand how the Service is used. Not used for advertising. |
| Purchase & subscription status | Apple / RevenueCat | Used to verify your subscription and unlock the App. We receive subscription status and an anonymous purchase identifier — never your name, Apple ID password, or payment card details. |
| Support emails | You email support@getsparka.app | Used to respond to you, including any data deletion request, and to improve the Service. |
| Basic technical data | Automatic | Standard server request data (such as IP address, timestamps, and error logs) processed for security, debugging, and operating the Service; retained briefly. |
What we don't do: no user accounts, sign-up, or login — you're identified only by an anonymous subscriber/purchase identifier; no advertising; no cross-app tracking; no selling or renting personal information; no use of your photos to train our own AI models.
3. Your Photos — and Children's Privacy
Photograph empty areas only. Sparka is designed to work from photos of classroom spaces and furniture, not people. As described in Section 1, the App automatically detects and blocks any photo containing a face before it is sent to OpenAI. As an educator or caregiver, you are responsible for complying with your school's policies before photographing your classroom.
Sparka is intended for adults 18 and older. The Service is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a photo containing a child was submitted, contact us at support@getsparka.app and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
4. How We Use Information
- To provide the Service — generating your images and activity ideas, verifying your subscription, enforcing usage caps, and showing your content in the App.
- To operate and protect the Service — debugging, security, preventing abuse and fraud, and enforcing our Terms of Use.
- To understand usage — first-party analytics on app events (screens viewed, plans tapped, purchases), linked to your anonymous subscriber ID, never for advertising.
- To support you — answering emails and resolving issues, including deletion requests.
- To comply with law — where processing is required by applicable law or legal process.
For users in the EEA, UK, and similar jurisdictions, our legal bases are: consent (sending your photo and theme to OpenAI), performance of a contract (providing the Service you subscribe to), legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, improving the Service), and legal obligation. We do not use your information for automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.
5. Who We Share Information With
We share information only with the service providers needed to run Sparka, and only for the purposes above:
- OpenAI — processes your photo and theme, with your consent, to generate the activity image and text. Does not use this data to train its models.
- Apple — processes all payments and manages subscriptions.
- RevenueCat — validates purchases and tracks subscription status using an anonymous identifier.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers — host our backend and website and route email (e.g., our email forwarding provider for support mail).
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights, safety, or property of QuickNora, our users, or the public, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (in which case this policy will continue to apply until it is updated). We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not do advertising or cross-app tracking of any kind.
6. Retention
- Classroom photos & generated images: not stored on our servers; processed in memory only for the duration of the request. OpenAI may retain this data for a limited period under its own policies (for example, to monitor for misuse) before it is deleted.
- Activity text, classroom area, theme history, usage counts & usage events: stored on our servers, linked to your anonymous subscriber ID, for as long as needed to operate the Service.
- Onboarding quiz answers: stored on our servers but not linked to your subscriber ID or any other data we collect; kept in aggregate, unconnected to any individual.
- Photos and saved sparks on your device: stay on your device until you delete them or the App.
- Purchase records: retained by Apple and RevenueCat per their policies; we keep subscription status only as long as needed to operate the Service.
- Support emails: retained as long as reasonably needed for support and record-keeping.
Deleting the App removes your locally stored photos and saved sparks from your device. Your subscription is managed separately through your Apple ID. To request deletion of the information stored on our servers under your anonymous subscriber ID, contact us (see Section 11).
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Because Sparka identifies you only by an anonymous subscriber ID, we may ask you to provide that identifier (found in the App) to locate and act on your request. To exercise any right, email support@getsparka.app; we may need to verify your request. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. EEA/UK users may also lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority.
California residents: the categories of personal information we collect and the purposes are described in Sections 2 and 4. We do not sell or share (as defined by the CCPA/CPRA) personal information, and we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes requiring a right to limit. You may exercise CCPA rights (know, delete, correct) via the email above; authorized agents may submit requests with proof of authorization.
8. International Transfers
The Service is operated from the United States, and information is processed in the United States and in the countries where our providers operate. Where required, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses implemented by our providers.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information in transit and during processing, including transport encryption (HTTPS) between the App, our backend, and our providers. No system is perfectly secure; please use the Service sensibly and contact us if you believe there has been unauthorized access.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify you (for example, in the App or on this page) and will update the effective date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
